Samuel Cassella former Business Owner and Civic Leader dies.
Grief and death has reached our home, taking the patriarch of the Casella family. Samuel Cassella, 89, who was Catholic by faith passed away on Friday January 5, 2018 at Latrobe Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe, PA. He was born on September 23, 1928. Sam was the son of the late Joseph& Madalina Cassella-Tartaglia
Sam worked from a young age to care for the needs of his family by selling newspapers before going to school and working at Seccurro's Billiards after school hours. Although Sam only had a 9th grade education had an unyielding determination to succeed. His strong will to provider for his family and the love of this country directed Sam to join the United States Army Air Corp at the early age of 16 in which he fought honorably for his country during World War II.
Sam's desire to strive continued after serving his country with dignity and honor. His strong work ethic was visible which helped him obtained a position of Superintendent of the City of Fairmont. He later became the ABCC Beer Commissioner for the State of WV under then Governor Rockefeller. Sam also owned several of his own businesses including the Air Corp Club, the High Chaparell, the Palatine Recreation and many local small businesses & confectionaries located in Fairmont, WV.
Sam's strength, guidance, and incredible example to do all we can as he did shall never be forgotten, yet carried on by so many who loved, respected, and sincerely appreciated him.
In his later years Sam enjoyed spending time with his wife Lenora of over 50 years and his granddaughter Alexis. He was also a master sports fan in which he passionately enjoyed watching any sport with his sons John and Victor.
Sam is survived by his wife Lenora Mary Raschella Cassella, seven sons; Joseph of South Carolina, Samuel Jr. of Fairmont, Keith Lee (Chuck) of Grafton, Mark of Anmoore, WV, Chris of Fairmont, John of Fairmont and Victor of Fairmont as well as two daughters, Kim of Fairmont, Christina of South Carolina and a host of grandchildren & great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Tony Cassella of Fairmont and his sister Rose Tatta of Fairmont and several nieces and nephews. Samuel Cassella touched mainly lives and valued the gift of life & the love of family.
He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Victor Casella and John Tartaglia
Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon David Lester Officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The Rosary led by Sr. Stella Cronauer will be recited at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marion County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
