James V. Migaiolo, Sr.April 25, 1929 ~ January 3, 2017 (age 87)
James V. Migaiolo, Sr. of Barrackville, West Virginia passed away Tuesday January 3, 2017 at Fairmont Regional Center. He was born in Fairmont on April 25, 1929 the oldest of four sons to Raffele and Barbara Migaiolo.
He is survived by his son James V. Migaiolo, Jr., two surviving brothers are Joseph of Morgantown (sister-in-law Judith) and Tony of Vista, California (deceased sister-in-law Eleanor). His brother Frank of Victorville, California passed in 2000 with his wife Marlene surviving. In addition, he had nieces Julie Ridge, Sandy Rose, Kim Jett, and Barbara Thomas along with nephews Frank Migaiolo, John Migaiolo, and Joseph R. Migaiolo and several cousins.
While growing up, he ran the movie projector at the local union hall. After graduation as the 1947 valedictorian of Barrackville High School, he worked two summers at Barrackville’s #41 mine while earning his bachelor’s degree at Fairmont State. After graduating from college, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Europe during the Korean War. Achieving the rank of Corporal, James was discharged when hostilities ended.
Upon returning home, he began teaching business (accounting, typing, etc.) related courses at East Fairmont High School. During his time there from 1955 to 1988, he earned his master’s degree at West Virginia University, met his future wife, the late Dorothy Meredith Migaiolo, who was East Fairmont’s physical education instructor, and had one son, James, Jr., who survives them both. Once he retired, he became vice-president and later president of the Retired Teachers Association during the early 1990s.
James was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church in Barrackville until its closing. Afterwards, he became a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont. Some of his many hobbies included gardening, traveling, photography, and spending time with friends and family.
Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont from 1-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday. A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Fr. Robert A. Perriello and Fr. William A. Anderson, Presiding. Interment will be follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
A Vigil Rite service led by Fr. William A. Anderson will be held Sunday evening at 7:30.
