Our History

Prior to opening this funeral home, Daniel C. Ross, in association with Fred L. Jenkins, operated a funeral home on bridge Street on the east side of Fairmont. It was the former Musgrave Funeral Home owned by Eli Musgrave.

Mr. Ross opened the Ross Funeral Home on Maple Avenue across from the historic Woodlawn Cemetery in 1931. The funeral home was in operation at that location until December 1941, when Daniel Ross opened a funeral home at 802 Fairmont Avenue, now the VFW. In the mid-1950's, when Mr. Ross purchased the J. E. Watson mansion known as High Gate, the funeral home moved to its present address at 801 Fairmont Avenue.

Robert A. Ross, 1937-2009
Daniel Ross died in 1964. His son, Robert A. Ross, took over the operation of the business until his death in August 2009. Long time associate Michael A. Savonarola, who has been affiliated with the business since 1995, is the licensed director in charge and manages the funeral home and monument business along with Mrs. Joan P. Ross, Robert Ross's widow.

Ross Funeral Home offers a wide variety of affordable services to help you and your family in their time of need. Our funeral home offers a comfortable atmosphere and a compassionate and knowledgeable staff.
